We're ramping up our fight against ICE this December
When we took action in Elizabeth, NJ in June, we hoped that we would inspire others to take action as well, but we had no idea it would spark the largest ever mobilization of American Jews and allies against the persecution of immigrants. We were blown away when 30,000 people signed up with us, ready to do what it takes in this urgent moment.
We hustled to support the 40+ actions that happened across the country this summer, and we know that there are thousands more people who have been ready to throw down since then. Because so many people showed up and pulled off so many actions, we had to make important choices in a hurry, and we made some mistakes! We are sorry. We know we haven’t made it easy to get information and to get connected.
That’s about to change. We have spent the last three months developing a blueprint so tens of thousands of us can be in this fight for the long haul. Over the summer we won some tangible victories — but ICE is still terrorizing immigrant communities, and the camps remain open. And that’s only going to be more true in 2020, as Trump and his administration attack immigrants to rile up their racist and xenophobic base for the election.
We are not going to sit at home while people are dying in camps and families are being rounded up. We are not going to wait and see what happens. We are going to build a movement to actually stop ICE from functioning and actually close the camps, and we won’t stop until we win.
It all starts in December. In the first week of the month, we are going to take mass, coordinated action in several key locations (sign up on our homepage for updates), followed by a wave of distributed actions across the country, bigger and bolder than in the summer. By the end of 2019, every American will know that there is a growing movement determined to do what needs to be done, just waiting for them to join.
And we need your help to make this plan reality!
Let us know how you want to be involved from now through December, and we’ll follow up to help you get plugged in.
Donate to our action fund! It costs money to organize a serious resistance, and if you’re someone with more cash than time, you can help us to support those with more time than cash.
Send this blog post to 3 friends or family members who share your commitment to shutting down ICE, closing the camps, and winning permanent protection for our undocumented neighbors.
We didn’t choose it, but this is our moment. We are going to be the allies our people needed in Nazi Germany, before it was too late, and we are truly honored to be in this fight with you.
In solidarity,
